Israel-Palestine Conflict

Israel and Palestine Should Negotiate

VIVAnews - Israel has launched their attacks to Gaza Strip, Palestine, for 13 days. Hundreds of people were dead. Up until today, there are no signs that the escalating conlicts in the Gaza Strip would diminish. Former Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid, popularly called Gus Dur, stated that Palestine and Israel should hold negotiations to cease the military clashes.

"The Palestinian people will be history [if no negotiations are made]. Israel has more advanced war equipments than Palestine," he said on Thursday, Jan 8.

According to Gus Dur, the Palestinian military capability will not hold against Israel's. Should the conflicts continue, the Palestinians would suffer the more. "I am on Palestinians' side. Therefore, I don't have the heart to see victims keep falling. Have mercy on them," he said.

According to Gus Dur, both nations should maintain security in their own territories. The Palestinian section would no longer be assaulted by Israeli military and vice versa. "Both parties will be annihilated if the conflicts go on," he said.

Gus Dur said the conflicts occurred in the Gaza Strip is concerned with political issues, and not religion. Both nations insist on founding their own independent and sovereign country. "Instead of engaging in a war, negotiations should be organized to assure security in their own territories," he said.
