Banks Compete to Offer High Savings Interests

VIVAnews - A number of banks like Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank and Bank Bukopin offer more on savings aiming at embracing as many customers as possible. In general, they will grant higher interests than normally offered by other banks which usually ranges from between two and four percent. In addition, instead of following other competitors, OCBC-NISP Bank offers monetary gifts, between Rp 200,000 and Rp 8 million (US$17 to US$708).

The US-based Citibank, for instance, holds out Maxi Save as its newest savings product. The product offers interest of up to 6.5 percent per year for customers who continue to increase their savings.

"This will enable money saved in an account to 'work' harder," said Retail Banking Head of Citibank NA, Meliana Sutikno, on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

According to Sutikno, the product introduces Maxi Rate and Maxi Access facilities. Maxi Rate specifies higher interest than other savings while Maxi Access facilitates customers to have Citibank credit cards. The card enables customers to transfer and withdraw money in more than 13,000 joint ATMs without being subject to additional charges.

Standard Chartered Bank offers Saving Plus+. The product provides freedom, benefits and facilities to customers. The product applies daily interest: the more savings a customer has, the higher interest that one may gain. Free-of-charge cash withdrawal is prepared in more than 11,200 joint ATMs as well as more than one million Cirrus ATM abroad.

As for Bank Bukopin, it offers SiAga Bukopin Business, aiming at either individual or corporate customers. In addition to offering daily interest rate, customers may also freely withdraw money through any ATM. "The product is aimed at business community," said President Director of Bank Bukopin, Glen Glenardi.
