Governor Hires Transportation Advisor

VIVAnews – Governor of Special Territory of Jakarta, Fauzi Bowo, is going to hire a transportation advisor to prepare the operation of corridors VIII to X that are designed as special lanes for the public transportation TransJakarta. It has been almost half a year that the three corridors remain neglected due to lack of supply buses.

“It’s ridiculous to continue to let the infrastructure deteriorate. But we don’t want to misuse authority to expedite the operation,” said Bowo, Thursday, Jan. 29.

Therefore, the Governor will hire the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy to repair the transit system infrastructure of the three corridors. The Institute will act as an advisor. “We will utilize the three corridors better than before,” he said.

The Institute will also be asked for opinions regarding the structure of the contract with the operators. Bowo wants the contract to remain focused on the public’s point of view. If there is a contract that disadvantages the public, it will be amended.

Jakarta’s provincial government has yet to determine when the three corridors would start operating. The plan to have corridor VIII functional by February failed to be executed. Until now, the bid for supply of buses has not been carried out.

Meanwhile the three corridors, which include 63 bus stops and 27 overhead passes, and are estimated to be worth Rp. 365 billion (US$32.28 million) are starting to deteriorate.
