Targeting Parliamentary Coalition of 40%

VIVAnews - Justice and Prosperous Party (PKS) noticed that the coalition of parties in the parliamentary is still impotent.

"The ideal percentage is 40 percent. We had bitter experience in the 2004 [Elections]," said PKS President Tifatul Sembiring on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Sembiring revealed that in the 2004 Elections, the coalition was only 18 percent. Therefore, the position in the parliamentary was not quite solid. "We must be stronger in order to face obstacles in the parliamentary. With 40 percent [of coalition], other parties will have less power," he said.

For the time being, said Sembiring, PKS is still under intensive discussions with those parties aiming at larger coalition. "We will announce the coalition after the legislative elections is held because we must first take into account of theĀ  total votes that we will get," he said.

PKS remains cautious because it wishes to prevent from being merely a supplementary party if it does not gain the targeted votes.

With a 40 percent coalition, he said, it is possible that PKS will nominate its own presidential candidate. "Not to mention 40 percent, we will nominate a presidential candidate even if [the coalition] is only 20 percent," said Sembiring.
